Only a few succeed in making their childhood dreams a reality. Daryle Singletary is one of these people. Even as a nine-year old he knew: “I would like to be a musician.”

In 1995 the singer, born in Georgia in 1971, finally published his debut album with Giant Records. Since them Singletary has become one of the greats of his genre. With this current album “Rockin’ in the Country” he again delivers a diverse and enthralling programme. Twelve catchy country songs – spiced with the John Denver evergreen “Take Me Home, Country Roads“ – give rise to a wonderfully vocal mix.

In comparison to the last album “Straight From the Heart" Daryle Singletary adds another edge. Not that his last album had been poor. Quite the opposite, in fact. It was a remarkably strong, balanced CD decorated with illustrious guest stars, without any weak tracks. Yet with “Rockin' in the Country” the strong lad from Cairo, Georgia, gives a bit more gas. The title says it. The clothes say it. And the music speaks for itself.

Even the title track and opener set the bar high. A terrific, cheerful country rocker, with drive – but also with feeling and a portion of down-to-earthiness, which the warm voiced singer has excelled in since the beginning of his career in 1995. He is simply a man of traditions. Not an experimenter, not a flirt with fashions and hypes. So – when some fashions of recent years are on the out list, today all of his seven albums so far not only have timeless charm; they always meet the highest expectations of quality. Especially as regards song choice and interpretation. This also applies unreservedly to “Rockin’ in the Country”.

Instead of counting on popular sounds and arrangements - often an alibi for immature song writing – in “Rockin’ in the Country” Daryle Singletary presents twelve wonderfully harmonious and catchy country songs. Classics of tomorrow. As usual for the singer, he also picks an evergreen for his album again: “Take Me Home, Country Roads”, the eternally young hymn of all truckers and country fans. But also a vocal genre icon on which a singer can quickly burn his fingers. Not Daryle Singletary. In the style of a great master he succeeded in coming close to the evergreen of John Denver – and at the same time setting new individual accents. Because Singletary also places everything on voice and soul in this track, his interpretation would count as one the best of many covered titles.

As nice and familiar the finale ode to American country roads likes to be, it doesn't take a special status in this dozen of songs. The reason: All tracks emit wonderfully catchy melodies and pure country feeling: Every song is a hit whether it is a nostalgic and yet freshly loved "Love You With the Lights on”, the very rocky “They Know How to Grow Em”, ballads like “She Sure Looks Good In Black” or the wonderfully old-fashioned, pepped up with smooth Jazz chords “Real Estate Hands”.

In the middle of the CD Singletary also has two real pearls in store: “If I Ever Get Her Back” and “Background Noise” with the sounds reminiscent of Tracy Lawrence which are as classic as they are sad. Here Singletary presents not only his fantastic gospel voice; he also lifts his hat to Michael Peterson’s excellent hit “Something Bout a Sunday”.
